Dear Gwendolyn - the baby shower was great fun and your cake was fabulous!! No one had the heart to cut into it because it was so beautiful. But, when I finally sliced and served it, the response was a unanimous one- best chocolate cake ever!! It was just delicious, and the frosting was so light that no one left a drop on their plate. I had several people ask me for your business card, so I showed them the pink ribbon & card. I would say you will have quite a few new customers.

From Historic Charm to Sweet Elegance

Gwendolyn’s Disney's BoardWalk Debut: Transforming ESPN into Cake Bake

Gwendolyn had a clear vision for transforming the former ESPN space into her dream of Cake Bake. She meticulously designed the layout and collaborated daily with architects, designers, contractors, and electricians to bring it to life. Relocating from Indiana, she settled into a rental home nearby, dedicating nearly two and a half years to overseeing the project on-site, ensuring every detail aligned perfectly with her original plan.

From Studs to Splendor: Gwendolyn’s Relentless Pursuit of Perfection

From the moment demolition began, reducing the entire structure to its bare studs, Gwendolyn immersed herself in the monumental task of rebuilding Cake Bake from the ground up. Every element mattered to her—each plank of flooring meticulously chosen for its texture and hue, every intricate wall trim crafted to reflect her exacting standards. She approached the process with an almost reverent attention to detail, ensuring that the foundation was as flawless as the delicate crown molding that adorned the walls, weaving together a space that was both functional and a testament to her unrelenting vision.

A Whimsical Tribute: Gwendolyn’s Carousel of Dreams

Gwendolyn recognized that the building’s distinctive octagonal shape demanded an extraordinary focal point, one that would elevate the space beyond the ordinary. Inspired by the whimsical genius of Walt Disney, she envisioned a grand rotating carousel as the heart of Cake Bake’s dining room—a tribute to his legacy of imagination and wonder. This wasn’t just a decorative flourish; it was a marvel of design, with its upper structure gracefully spinning to unveil her lavish, ever-changing seasonal decorations, each display more enchanting than the last. Perfectly suited to the vibrant charm of the BoardWalk Resort, the carousel became a captivating centerpiece, blending nostalgia with Gwendolyn’s flair for the spectacular, delighting guests and bringing her dream to life in a way that felt almost magical.

Gwendolyn’s Hands-On Mastery: Crafting a Vision in Crystal and Gold

Gwendolyn’s hands-on dedication knew no bounds, as she personally adorned each of the seventeen dazzling chandeliers in her restaurant, delicately hanging every single shimmering crystal to catch the light just so. But her involvement stretched far beyond such intricate details—she fearlessly ascended the lift time and again, overseeing the construction with a keen eye, ensuring every beam and bolt met her exacting standards. She took particular pride in unveiling the opulent gold leaf marquee, a crowning jewel of elegance that announced Cake Bake’s grandeur to the world. Perhaps most strikingly, she climbed atop the massive rotating platform, with her son Weston—a bespoke marvel she’d commissioned from artisans in Australia—supervising its installation with the same meticulous care she applied to every facet of her vision, her silhouette against the skyline a testament to her relentless pursuit of perfection.

Meet My Family

My husband and I have been married for 29 years (together for 34 years) and we have three incredibly wonderful sons who are now 27, 24 and 22. My boys and husband have always been my best food critics. My family is the reason why I love to cook. It fills up our home with love, laughter, happiness and good food. A family that cooks together, stays together. We are all very close and we have been together cooking since they were little. Even though they are all grown up, we are still cooking together today.

We also love dogs, meet our dog Huxley. He is a English creme retriever and a huge help in the kitchen.
