Cake Bake Shop Owner Teaches Balance Between Healthy Living, Indulging In Decadence

CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — Who says healthy eating and loving sweets has to be separate? Gwendolyn Rogers, owner of The Cake Bake Shop in Carmel, showed how making food from scratch is a much healthier option than buying the processed foods at the grocery store, which contains ingredients like high-fructose corn syrup. Rogers showed Carlos Diaz the health differences between store-bought and made-from-scratch favorites: carrot cake, broccoli quiche and chocolate chip cookies. Rogers is speaking at Healthy Living Day at JCC Indianapolis Wednesday. There is still time to sign up to attend her "Have Your Cake and Eat It Too" workshop, where she'll teach how to enjoy sweets while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The workshop is 8-9:30 a.m. in the Laikin Auditorium inside the Arthur M. Glick JCC. It is $28 and includes a healthy breakfast and piece of cake from The Cake Bake Shop. Afterward, there will be more than 20 free health screenings available. Healthy Living Day also includes other perks like pop-up shops and a silent auction.
